Spring prep 2019
Hoodathunk! We've done some reading, since we've not enjoyed great harvests of produce over the years, in spite of now watering and fertilizing...so we bought a nifty little probe tool that tells us a couple of things. Our new toy has a moisture sensor, a light sensor, and...a ph sensor. Found out our soil is pretty alkaline - around 8.0 for most of our garden beds.
So, we've gotten sulphur and are amending the soil as we prepare our garden boxes for planting. As of yesterday, March 16, there are onion sets in the ground, as well as some broccoli plants. And, I planted several types of carrots, beets and peas (seeds, not plants) and later this week I'll put in some of the same that we started indoors a couple weeks ago.
Oh, and this past Thursday we got 17 new chicks who are now in the brooder growing and getting ready to produce eggs for us. 16 are little ladies and one is a little man, and before they will be put out, we'll "lose" our remaining roosters. Goats are pregnant, dogs are dogs, donks are donking.
Life on the farm is ready for spring!
